Junior Woman's Club of Sparta

Building Friendships While Serving Our Community

The Junior Woman's Club of Sparta is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, which is headquartered in Washington D.C. The GFWC was organized in 1910 through a U.S. Government charter and was federated in 1922.

The state of New Jersey is divided into eleven districts of Women's Clubs. The Highlands District is located in the northwestern part of the state.
In 1966, a small group of women who were part of the Dover Juniors formed the Junior Woman's Club of Sparta. After several months of preparation, the Woman's Club of Sparta sponsored the Sparta Juniors and in 1967 they officially became part of the New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs.

Throughout the years, club ideas and areas of need in the community have changed, but not the spirit of service each member carries. For many years, the JWCS has sponsored blood drives, scholarships, Sparta Day, children's events and safety programs, among many others. While some club activities have been going strong for years and others are new - there is no doubt that the JWCS has made its mark on Sparta. As stated in the Junior Pledge, Sparta Juniors are "living each day trying to accomplish something, not merely to exist."

Fundraising

Each year the JWCS contributes money to recognized nonprofits through its fundraising efforts. Donation recipients may change from year to year.

Contributions may be made at various levels:

  • The National Director, with her Executive Board, selects a national project that is supported by Clubs throughout the country.
  • On the State level, a project is selected by the Clubs in New Jersey.
  • Locally, Clubs can choose, via membership vote, any nonprofit(s) to which to disburse Club funds.
