Saturday May 22  

Sparta Day is a rain or shine vendor fair and family festival that has become not only a fundraiser for local charities but also a much anticipated community event.  There is also a designated area of "Kid's Country" consisted of free rides, activities and demonstrations for children of all ages.

  • Scholarship

Postmarked by May 1, 2010 

The Junior Woman's Club of Sparta is pleased to announce the granting of three scholarship awards each in the amount of $1000 to a female student from a Sparta high school.  Interested applicants should know the awards will be based on service to the community and school involvement.  Written expression and academic achievement will also be considered .                                                                                                                    A hard copy of the completed application needs to be postmarked by May 1, 2010.                                 Incomplete application packages will be immediately disqualified from judging as will any applications postmarked after May 1, 2010.

Please submit the following:

1.   Completed application including the two (2) tables - community service and extra-curricular activities and your responses to the two (2) brief essay questions.  Download application:  2010 Application.doc               2.   One letter of recommendation from a high school counselor, teacher, administrator, work supervisor, or community service supervisor.                                                                                                                             3.   A copy of your high school transcript.

  • Safety Village

Monday June 21 through Thursday June 24

The Junior Woman's Club of Sparta is proud to present Safety Village 2010, a comprehensive and fun safety education program for children entering a Sparta kindergarten this fall.  Now in its twenty-first year of operation, this award-winning program will be held at the Helen Morgan School (100 Stanhope Road) in Sparta, starting Monday, June 21st through Thursday, June 24th, 2010 (9:30am - 12 Noon).

The program is staffed by our enthusiastic club members with special assistance from the Red Cross, Sparta Police and Ambulance departments and other community volunteers.  The children will learn abouth the many aspects of safety through fun and entertaining presentations, games and projects.  The program covers safety lessons on many topics including forest, bike and helmet, pedestrian, traffic, bullying, school bus, fire, police, ambulance, water, health and telephone.
